Intro:

It’s Christmas Eve as we record this show.  We are all back in the studio and ready to go!

Main Discussion:

Today’s show is all about the Blue Zones and what they share in common?  Why do these people live for so long and how can we replicate it?

The discovery of the Blue Zones is what changed Peter’s life trajectory.  He recounts the story of this, how he found them, and what has changed since that time.

After that, we get into what the Blue Zones are, where are they, and the 9 traits that bind them called the “The Power 9.”  We also discuss how far away from the Power 9 we have moved as a country.

Blue Zone Power 9:

  1. Move Naturally
  2. Purpose
  3. Downshift
  4. 80% Rule
  5. Plant Slant
  6. Wine at 5
  7. The Right Tribe
  8. Community
  9. Loved Ones

Action Items:

  • Move as much as you can.  Rely less on technology and move more.
  • Have a sense of purpose daily, especially in retirement.
  • De-stress! Read, meditate, pray, nap, exercise, or whatever works for you.
  • Stop eating when you are 80% full.  Eating with others and/or eating with chopsticks are some ways to accomplish this.
  • Eat a diet largely based on plants.  Eat meat 1-2x/week and only 3-4 oz when you do.
  • Moderate alcohol consumption can be good for you.  More importantly, doing it as part of socializing is especially beneficial.
  • Surround yourself with the right people for a happy and fulfilling life.
