In this week’s What Is Now (W.I.N.) episode, we discuss:
It is late again and Gary just wants to start the show! So we START!
Gary discusses how meditation can change your brain. Specifically, meditation can improve the size and activity of the pre-frontal cortex which gives us more control over our amygdala. In return, this gives us more impulse control allowing us to make better decisions around food, money, and more. Also, meditation can improve happiness by lighting up your left prefrontal cortex. A great discussion around meditation ensues.
Peter talks about the benefits of drinking alcohol. An article he was reading states that moderate alcohol consumption has positive effects on our heart and stress levels. We also talk about the effects of alcohol on sleep and how that would contradict what the article is saying. We have a good conversation about the good and bad of alcohol.
Sarah is disappointed that apparently having too much hummus is bad for you. The article Sarah read specifies that hummus is high in fiber as well as calorically dense. Eating too much hummus can have negative GI effects. Sarah recently started making her own hummus so this news is not welcome for her.
